#60 Same Direction Cannon Double Headed Snake Pawn Formation vs Double Ranked Chariot Red C8=9, R9=8, C4+5
Outcome: Advantages go to Black

  1. C2=5  C8=5    2. H2+3  H8+7
  3. R1=2  R9+1    4. P3+1  R9=4
  5. H8+7  H2+3    6. P7+1  R1+1

Now we reaches the most effective situation for both sides.
Red starts with Central Cannon, Proper Horses with 3rd Pawn and 7th Pawn Advancement.

Whereas, Black replies with Same Direction Cannon, Proper Horses and Double Ranked Chariots.

Now is Red's turn.

  7. C8=9  …………

In this post, we will discuss Red C8=9 variation.
This is not the nice move for Red.
If Black handle it correctly, he will gain some advantages.

  7. …………  R4+5

Black R4+5 is the most effective move to counter-attack.Black is planning to attack Red's left horse.

If you recall from previous posts, normally Black R4+5 to attack Red's horse is not wise. This is because Red could E7+9 then follow by R9=7 to protect the horse.

However, in this example, Red C8=9 had occupied the position and Red can not play E7+9 anymore.

As current board situation, there are 3 main variations for Red.
1) H3+4
2) H7+8
3) R9=8

In this post, we will discuss H7+8

  8. R9=8  …………

We have learnt from previous post, Red's variations R3+4 and R7+8 are not good, advantages all go to Black.
In this post, Red chooses R9=8.

The purpose of R9=8 is to protect left's horse.

  8. …………  R4=3

R4=3 is a good move.

  9. R8+2  …………

As planned, Red protects his horse with chariot.

  9. …………  R1=4

Key move.

 10. C5=4  …………

If Red played C9-1, Black would R4+7!

Red moved away his central cannon is to prepare for E3+5 to consolidate the defense. In addition, also prepare for C4+1 to attack black's cannon or C4+5 to threaten Black's horse and cannon.

 10. …………  P3+1

Key move.

Black just ignore Black's C4+5!

 11. C4+5  …………

There are 2 main variations for Red.
1) C4+5 to attack Black's horse and cannon.

2) C4+1 to attack Black's chariot

In this post, we discuss C4+5 variation.

Red C4+5 seems a good move, Red may capture one of the piece. Is it true?

 11. …………  P3+1

Red C4+5 is a weak move. Black can overcome this, and gain the advantages.
Let enjoy the movements of Black.

 12. C4=7  …………

Of course Red C4=7 to capture Black's horse.

Therefore, what is the best move for Black?

 12. …………  P3=2

Correct!

This is the secret weapon of Black! Black can gain back the material that his lost previously..and further gain some advantages.

Now, Black's cannon is attackingRed's chariot.

 13. R8+2  …………

Red force to capture the pawn.

 13. …………  R3+1   14. C7=3  C2=7

After captured the cannon, Black's chariot is capturing Red'horse.

 15. E3+5  R4+7

Exellence move!

Red's chariot blocking the elephant's eye, and plan to use another chariot to capture the elephant. Red is in difficult position.
